Our food pantry is open Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 am to 10:15 am and Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
To minimize waiting for clients, appointments are recommended. Walk-ins will be served after those with appointments, as time allows. To make an appointment, just call the office (249-9222).
We offer on-site registration. Photo IDs are required for all family members at the first visit, and for each client attending the pantry after that. Documentation of residence, such as a driver's license, rental agreement or utility bill, is also required. We can serve individuals with income at 200% or less of the Federal Poverty Level ($52,400 yearly for a family of four) .
Those coming to the food pantry are invited to choose food based on what is available, and the amount received is based on household size. It is an honor to serve the guests in our community!
If you need help and are unable to get an appointment, simply dial 2-1-1 to reach a caring community resource specialist through United Way 2-1-1 (formerly First Call for Help). Help is available every hour of every day and in almost any language.
You are also welcome to come by our building and see what our Little Free Pantry has to offer. This Little Free Pantry is located in our front yard facing North Street and is supplied by donations to Bashford as well as donations from people in the neighborhood. Take what you need, or leave what you can!

June 8, 2020, Madison, Wisconsin
Beginning this month,Bashford United Methodist is able to offer more Dane Countyhouseholds the Grade-A foods provided by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Bashford United Methodist Food Pantry is an authorized food distributor in the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and can now provide no-cost groceries for households that have incomes up to 300% of the federal poverty level (FPL). People who have lost jobs or income may obtain a monthly share of American-grown meat, vegetables, fruit, juice, and more from a TEFAP food pantry. Before June 1, 2020, TEFAP’s qualifying income threshold was 185% FPL.
Enrollment is confidential and simple. The Bashford United Methodist Food Pantry is located at 329 North Street in Madison, and is open Mondays & Wednesdays 9:00am – 10:15am and Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00pm – 7:00pm. The Pantry will provide food on the day of application, and once every two weeks as long as the household’s income qualifies them to participate. Proof of address and identification are required; proof of income is not.
Households participating in other food programs (such as Food Share, WIC or school nutrition) may also participate in TEFAP without affecting their ability to qualify for those programs.
Wisconsin’s pantry volunteers are providing “no contact” food distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are enrolling households and distributing groceries outdoors to minimize health risks. In many locations, TEFAP applicants and participants remain in their cars for service.
In 2019, Wisconsin’s 265 charitable TEFAP pantries made more than 800,000 monthly food distributions to households in need of food.
