Pastoral Care

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 5

Pastoral care support aims to respond compassionately and appropriately to the holistic needs of people who are hurting from the wounds of life; confused about what to do next; dealing with serious illness (either the sick and/or their families who care for them); have difficulty dealing with bereavement; or struggling to understand God and His ways. Pastoral care also provides emotional and spiritual support through visitation either at hospitals, home care facilities or at your home.

Very simply, when you have to deal with the "storms of life" personally and in our world, this ministry is designed to minister to your needs and offer support to our community in the name of Jesus Christ, who came to save and heal broken hearts.

Congregation Care

And they will know we are Christians by our love

At Bashford UMC, we want to emphasis that faith is about relationships. We want not only to celebrate the happy times in people's lives but also the times of fear, grief, or uncertainty. We can be supportive in prayer-which is not magic but a way by which we, through God, commune with God to share our concerns together in comforting love. You can also receive support from Pastor Amanda or Kory Douglass, our Coordinator of Adult Ministries and Congregational Care. Please don't hesitate to reach out in time of celebration, so we can celebrate with you, or time of need, so we can help walk with you through it spiritually. This may include visits to hospital rooms or your home, and please know that visitation is a common ministry for us, not a burden. Other ministries of congregational support are available too. For instance, folks who have a hard time getting out can receive visits from our Home Visitation Team. Please get in touch with us if you, or someone you know, would be interested in receiving monthly visits from friendly people who want to get to know you and help you feel loved and connected to others. Nothing is expected in return from those we visit.

Another way we nurture our relationships is our Communion Steward ministry. If you or anyone you know in the Bashford community would like communion offered to you/them by one of our Communion Stewards, please let us know so that we can set up a schedule whereby we can serve you. In the United Methodist tradition, communion is for anyone and everyone, baptize or unbaptized, longtime Christian or unsure what to call yourself, interested in developing their connection to Jesus Christ. Wherever you find yourself, know that you, whoever you are, whatever you've done, however you understand God, are loved unconditionally. We at Bashford want to be an extension of that love, and while it may seem like a church cliché, we actually mean it!
